The Internet

The internet is a global interconnection of many networks.

In it’s simplest form,  a computer network is used to share hardware resources and facilitate  electronic communications between computers and other devices.

The internet is  the world’s largest computer network.

We can think of the internet as all the infrastructure – computers, routers, modems, fibre optic cables, wireless devices, satellites etc , that allows for the electronic sharing and communication.

Specialized services run on top of the internet by utilizing the provided internet infrastructure. Examples are : Whatsapp, The WWW, Email.

The World Wide Web

The world wide web is a group of webpages  which are connected to each  other by links called hyperlinks

A webpage is an electronic document that can be read/viewed by web browser software (e.g Chrome, Edge). Web pages are also know as Hypertext Documents which are written in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML).

Web pages are stored on Webservers, which can be accessed by a web address e.g. http://google.com.

Because many webservers can exist on the internet, the world wide web is a global interconnection of webpages via hyperlinks.
